The Icy Hot Club is a Los Angeles-based group that plays Gypsy Jazz music in the style of Django Reinhardt. Our core group consists of two guitars and upright bass, but we may also add violin, clarinet, and/or drums depending on the situation. We play a wide range of material including Gypsy, Pop, and Jazz. Our versatility and extensive repertoire allow us to perform in situations ranging from instrumental background music for a cocktail hour or lounge, to tasteful and danceable music at weddings and dances, to exciting high-energy stage shows at clubs and parties. Please contact us if you are interested in having us perform at your event, and we will bring our taste, excitement, and 1930's style to make your event an unforgettable experience.

.. 길거리 연주는 언제 하는데?
.. 배 곺으면..

그랬다. 그의 대답은 간단하고 명료했다.

끝임없이 일하고, 끝임없이 돈을 벌어야 하고..
배가 고프지 않아도 시간되면 먹어야 하고..
보고 싶지 않아도, 봐야 하면서.. 웃고 싶지 않아도 웃어야 하고..

인생을 연주하며 사는 우리는 누가 봐주는 사람도 없다..

그는 간단하고 명료했던 거다.
그만의 분명한 세계를 가진 그는 그랬다.

그는 내가 찍은 그의 사진을 몹시도 보고 싶어 했는데..
이 글을 올린 지 몇개월 후 그로부터 전화가 왔고, 그는 날 찾아왔고, 난 그에게 아래의 사진이 들어간 CD 를 건넸다.

그는 그의 새 앨범 표지로 쓰겠다 했다..
그리곤 안녕..

That's it. It couldn't be simpler and clearer.

His music was sort of Avant-Guard.. experimental..
Actually he wanted to see him playing guitar. He never had any photos of himself to play. 
So I promised him to make a CD of his photos and gave him my business card. 
He called me once but I wasn't available at that time and I've got no more call from him.. 
If anybody could reach him, please let him know that his photos are available now..

어느 낯선 도시에서 만나곤 하는 Deja Vu 는 아니더라도
간혹 감상에 빠지게 되는 장면들을 접하게 되는 경우가 있다.

캐나다에서 가장 오래된 도시중 하나이자 문화 경제적 중심도시였던 몬트리올.

아직 문화 중심으로서의 과거의 관성이 남아있긴 하지만..
이젠 경쟁도시 토론토로 금융을 비롯한 거의 모든 경제 주체들이 빠져나가 버린
축제가 끝난 후의 허탈함이 오래도록 존재하는 듯한 도시..

마부가 끄는 마차 속에서 단정하게 앉아
석양이 지려하는 고도의 중심도로를 무심히 지나는 한 소녀의 표정은
내 젊은 날의 많은 추억들을 떠올리게 한다.

더군다나..
그 맞은편 도로에서 깨끗한 빈티지 웨딩카가 신부를 태우고 막 지나가고 있을 경우에..


이젠..
신선하게 채워 넣어질 새로운 추억거리 보다는,
어떤 사소한 주변의 자극에 의해서라도
금새 끄집에 내어질 수 있는 오만가지 유사한 추억들로
내 머리 속 수많은 기억 소자들간의 연결 가중치들은 충분히 무겁다..

seemingly slowly and nonchalantly..
while a fancy white vintage limousine
was passing by her horse carriage.

a snapshot of image sometimes triggers a series of memories
hidden for a long time far behind my mind..

no matter what it is..
no matter how it associates with the scene..
it's touching and nostalgic.. naturally for me
cause i'm getting old enough.

i have lots more things to remember
than i could experience anything new..

마음씨 착해 보이는 이 마부 할아버지는 또 어찌나 童話 속 馬夫 스러운지.. ㅎ
