비오는 황포강을 바라보며 걷던 강변 길들, 주말이면 상하이로 올라와 신천지 까페들에서 홀로 와인과 함께 했던 프로젝트 작업들,
그리고 상하이에서 가장 오래된 호텔 중 하나인 평화 호텔에서의 올드 재즈 세션들도..

가땅은 요하네스버그 에서 온 이 뮤지션들이 음악적 감각이 부족하다고 불평을 하곤 했다..

The Icy Hot Club is a Los Angeles-based group that plays Gypsy Jazz music in the style of Django Reinhardt. Our core group consists of two guitars and upright bass, but we may also add violin, clarinet, and/or drums depending on the situation. We play a wide range of material including Gypsy, Pop, and Jazz. When I look back all the people I've been interacting so far,
musicians are the least contaminated group of people.
Far detached from any mundane value in the world,
they just focus on their own music and they enjoy.
Not many musicians can live with only money they can earn over performance
so they need to have another work for living. They are happy though.
People look beautiful when they do whatever they really like to do.

For writers, painters or composers, I see lots of pain of creation.
They need to squeeze their brain to create a plot,
to compose a melody or lyric and to create the colors they satisfy.

But the performers, once they initially mastered,
they usually get more matured as they repeat the similar repertoire again and and again.
And their level of satisfaction over their own performance gets higher and higher.

Whenever I have conversation with these guys,
I feel like I talk to lively children. I like them and actually envy them much.

.. 길거리 연주는 언제 하는데?
.. 배 곺으면..

그랬다. 그의 대답은 간단하고 명료했다.

끝임없이 일하고, 끝임없이 돈을 벌어야 하고..
배가 고프지 않아도 시간되면 먹어야 하고..
보고 싶지 않아도, 봐야 하면서.. 웃고 싶지 않아도 웃어야 하고..

인생을 연주하며 사는 우리는 누가 봐주는 사람도 없다..

그는 간단하고 명료했던 거다.
그만의 분명한 세계를 가진 그는 그랬다.

그는 내가 찍은 그의 사진을 몹시도 보고 싶어 했는데..
이 글을 올린 지 몇개월 후 그로부터 전화가 왔고, 그는 날 찾아왔고, 난 그에게 아래의 사진이 들어간 CD 를 건넸다.

그는 그의 새 앨범 표지로 쓰겠다 했다..
그리곤 안녕..

His music was sort of Avant-Guard.. experimental..
Actually he wanted to see him playing guitar. He never had any photos of himself to play. 
So I promised him to make a CD of his photos and gave him my business card. 
He called me once but I wasn't available at that time and I've got no more call from him.. 
If anybody could reach him, please let him know that his photos are available now..
